Don’t we all deserve a second chapter? Let’s make Talei’s one for the books.
Talei is a sweet, shy, and mellow 8-year-old Shih Tzu with a beautiful black, grey, and white coat. After coming from a puppy mill closure, this tiny girl has made huge progress and is discovering the joys of comfort, companionship, and life at her own pace.
Talei is a good eater, sleeps happily on her dog bed, and is learning all about the routines of a loving home. She is picking up stairs, crate time for meals, car rides etc. She prefers to do things independently, but once she realizes there is nothing to fear, she is happy to follow along. She may still be nervous about being carried and close handling, though she relaxes more quickly each time.
Talei loves other dogs and would do best in a home with a confident canine companion. She is good with other animals and has walked well alongside dogs, although solo walks are not yet her favourite activity. She is beginning to explore the house, follows her people from room to room, and will come when called for outings. She is still learning to ask for bathroom breaks, so her family will need to watch for pacing.
Although she is small, Talei is a guard dog at heart. Unfamiliar noises may inspire her to march off and announce that the situation is being handled. For this reason, apartment living would not be the best fit. She is also fearful of storms and strange sounds, and her new family should be patient, gentle, and respectful of her boundaries.
Talei appears to have ongoing issues with allergies and will require Pro Otic HC twice weekly for ear maintenance. During peak allergy times, it is recommend to give her once weekly cool water baths with an oatmeal shampoo to help relieve any issues due to allergens. In the future Talei may require a hypoallergenic diet or further management to keep her comfortable.
Talei is friendly with both men and women, well mannered, crate-, house (mostly)-, and leash-trained, and unbothered by distractions such as cyclists and skateboards. She is a clean slate when it comes to fancy tricks and commands, but she has already mastered something far more important: learning to trust.
