Minnie is a sweet, gentle three-year-old Havanese who is learning how wonderful life can be. Recently released from a puppy mill, she arrived frightened and unsure—but during her month in foster care, this happy little girl has made lovely progress.
Minnie is a quiet, shy and submissive dog who likes to keep her people in sight. She may follow you around the house and can become stressed if left alone for long periods, so she is looking for a patient home where she will receive plenty of companionship and reassurance. She is not especially fond of being picked up or wearing a harness and leash yet, but she is gradually learning that new experiences can be safe.
This smart girl knows her name, has a wonderful appetite and enjoys giving kisses. She gets along well with other dogs and has shown no aggression. She likes women and is good with other animals; her comfort with men and children has not yet been tested. Minnie can be left alone uncrated and does well in the car.
Minnie is crate trained and loves her cozy space. She goes into her crate on her own in the evening, sleeps peacefully through the night and waits until morning to go outside. She uses a doggie door and is making good progress with pee-pad and house training, with only occasional accidents. She is also beginning to work on obedience and leash training.
Minnie is in good health, and PPR has taken care of the dental surgery she needed. She had one unusual bite after that surgery, most likely because she was in pain (foster mom's hand) , but this is not typical of her gentle nature and she has had no aggression issues since that time to indicate this would be a concern for the future.
Havanese are intelligent dogs, and Minnie is no exception. With time, kindness and a loving routine, she will continue to blossom into a loyal little companion. Minnie is looking for a calm, understanding home where her people will celebrate her progress and let her come out of her shell at her own pace.
