Hugo is a soft, sensitive little Bichon Frise who’s just beginning to discover how beautiful life can be. After coming from a puppy mill, the world still feels big—but with each passing day, Hugo is learning that it can also be safe, warm, and full of love.
Think of Hugo as your future “pocket puppy”—a gentle, devoted companion who wants nothing more than to curl up beside you, share quiet moments, and feel secure. He loves sleeping close to his people, enjoys peaceful walks, and finds comfort in the presence of both humans and other animals. He’s currently living with cats and does wonderfully with them.
Hugo is shy and submissive, and he needs someone who will move at his pace. Talk sweetly to him, move gently, and he’ll begin to show you his trust. He’s learning every day—about routines, about confidence, and about what it means to be loved. This is a big new world for Hugo… would you like to help him discover it?
He does experience anxiety and takes medication to help support him during stressful events such as going to the vet or new situations, but he’s already making steady progress in a calm, patient environment. He can be left alone uncrated and is working on house training, leash skills, and all the basics—Hugo is learning, one step at a time.
Mealtime is where Hugo’s sensitive side really shows. After some experiences that made him wary of bowls, he’s become a bit of a “picky prince.” He prefers to take his food piece by piece, sometimes moving it to a spot that feels safer before eating. He’s slow and thoughtful, especially with curious feline roommates nearby, but his foster has seen that with patience and consistency, he continues to improve. Before his recent vet procedures, he was a great eater—so this is just part of his journey back to feeling secure.
Hugo is looking for a calm, loving home where he can be someone’s pampered little companion—a cozy bed, a gentle voice, and a heart that understands that trust takes time. In return, he’ll give you quiet devotion, tender companionship, and the joy of watching a shy little soul blossom. While Hugo hasn’t been tested with children in our care, he would do best in a home with older, respectful teenagers or in an adult-only household. He thrives in a calm environment and will need a family that understands and respects his need for space and quiet time.
