Haru is a five-year-old Japanese Chin who perfectly captures why people fall head over heels for this charming, quirky breed. Once you’ve had a Chin in your life, it’s hard to imagine going without—and Haru makes a very convincing case as to why.
This sweet little guy is full of personality. He’s expressive, a little dramatic in the most endearing way, and has a signature excitement routine that includes spinning, happy barking, and pure joy when he hears his favourite words. True to his classic Chin behaviour—Haru is sensitive, people-focused, and delightfully quirky. Haru loves snuggling up for a cuddle, but as soon as you get moving, he’s ready for the next adventure! He’s a high-energy little guy who also knows how to settle down and enjoy some quiet time.
Haru forms strong bonds with his people and likes to be part of whatever you’re doing. He may be a bit cautious with unfamiliar men at first, but with a little time and patience, he warms up nicely and becomes a loyal little shadow. He’s happiest when he knows where his people are and would love a home where he can be included in daily life.
In the home, Haru is a dream. He’s not crate trained, but he doesn’t need to be—he’s respectful, non-destructive, and trustworthy when left loose. He’s pee pad trained and will also go outside reliably when kept on a routine. At night, he’s the perfect roommate, happily sleeping beside you or on his own bed, with a cuddle before lights out and another to start the day.
Haru gets along beautifully with other animals. He currently lives with large dogs and cats and is wonderfully indifferent to both—making him a great candidate for a multi-pet household, especially with calm companions. That said, he’d also be perfectly content as your one and only.
He rides reasonably well in the car (a cozy bed helps!) and is good on leash, making him an easy companion for outings. He’s also proven himself to be an excellent “coworker,” happily snoozing the day away in an office setting and soaking up attention from new friends.
Haru’s biggest challenge is mild separation anxiety. He doesn’t get into trouble, but he will bark and wait by the door when left alone, as he truly prefers being with his people. For this reason, he would do best in a detached home with someone who is home often—perhaps a retiree, a work-from-home professional, or anyone looking for a constant, loving companion.
He’s a great eater (sometimes a little too enthusiastic—counter surfers beware!), is learning his manners like “off,” and is continuing to build on his house training. He recently had six teeth removed and is otherwise in good health.
Haru is searching for connection, companionship, and a cozy place to belong. If you’re hoping for a devoted little sidekick who will make you smile every day with his antics and affection, Haru just might be your perfect match.
