Hi! My Name Is Dorothy

Dorothy is a 10-year-old Chihuahua with a big personality packed into a tiny senior body. This sweet little lady is friendly, affectionate, and enjoys being around people. She has settled nicely into foster care and is now looking for a calm, understanding home that appreciates all the charm and quirks that come with a senior dog who knows exactly what she likes.

Dorothy is housetrained, easygoing in the home, and happiest when she can be close to her people. She enjoys gentle companionship and has done well with respectful children who understand when she needs a little space. Dorothy currently lives with other senior dogs and does best with calm, slower-moving canine companions. While Dorothy has not been formally tested with cats, her mellow nature suggests she would likely do fine, though feline roommates (or you) may need to guard their dinner from this tiny food enthusiast. She can be vocal when excited, especially around mealtimes and walks, which honestly just adds to her entertaining little personality. Thunderstorms can make her nervous, but curling up beside her person on a soft pillow helps her feel safe and comforted.

Like many older dogs, Dorothy comes with a few special considerations. She only has two teeth after some much needed dental work, so she eats very small kibble or wet food and currently enjoys being hand fed. She prefers to enjoy meals without other dogs crowding her space and will let them know with some barking if boundaries are crossed. Dorothy can also be bossy with dogs who move too quickly toward her and would do best in a home that can manage introductions and feeding routines thoughtfully. She has occasional coughing due to a sensitive throat, some arthritis in her knees, and a harmless heart irregularity that has already been assessed by a cardiologist and does not require medication. Dorothy also has a bit of a mischievous side and may try to sneak out open doors if given the chance, so a careful eye and secure routine are important.

Dorothy’s ideal home is one that values companionship, routine, and understanding. She would thrive with someone who appreciates senior dogs and understands that her little opinions and quirks are part of what makes her special. Whether as an only dog or with calm, respectful companions, Dorothy is ready to spend her golden years being loved, spoiled, and included as part of the family.
