Malo is a charming young Chihuahua at just under 2 years old. He originally came to Precious Paws from a remote community in northern Ontario because his family was unable to care for him. Malo has since been adopted out and returned to our care twice, once due to owner allergies and once because Malo really loves to guard his favourite person (in this case, the woman in the home). His future adopters need to be willing to put the time and energy into setting boundaries, training and ensuring Malo gets enough exercise and rest. Malo is ADORABLE, no doubt about it, and he's also an active puppy that has needs.
Malo is friendly, curious, and playful. He loves toys and play wrestling with people. He gets along well with both men and women and he has a tendency to especially attach to one person and then guard that person from other people and pets. An experienced, adult-only, home would be best suited for Malo although he does get along great with older children who understand his quirks.
Malo is housetrained and crate trained and he walks nicely on leash too. At night, Malo sleeps in his crate (as long as a soft blanket is involved). He loves to snuggle on the couch but needs a family that will ensure he is getting enough exercise first because he's just too easy to snuggle up with!
Malo shines in an active home that enjoys playtime, outdoor walks, and we're sure he would love to try agility training. His future adopter will need to be committed to starting off on the right foot with obedience classes (requirement of adoption). Malo gets along with other dogs and he's met a cat in his foster home too, like many chihuahuas he has a BIG attitude and he's still learning how to play appropriately. An adopter who is knowledgeable in managing this would ensure he could live happily with another dog.
Malo is a loving, loyal companion who’s ready to bring warmth, fun, and a dash of spunk to a patient and consistent adopter. If you’re interested in making Malo a permanent member of your family, please fill out an adoption application today!
