Adoption Process

Adoption

So You Want To Adopt Your New Best Friend

At Precious Paws Rescue, our volunteer Adoption Team is committed to making thoughtful matches between our adoptable dogs and their future families. Every dog spends a minimum of two weeks in a foster home so we can learn about their personality, temperament, energy level, comfort with children and other animals, medical needs, and more. On average though, dogs are in foster care for eight weeks or longer before being made available for adoption, ensuring they are fully vetted, including spayed or neutered. As an entirely volunteer-run organization, we appreciate your patience and we will respond to all applications received.

Our volunteers, and our rescue dogs, thank you for choosing adoption!

OUR PROCESS

1

Review Our Adoptable Dogs

We only accept adoption applications for dogs that are currently available for adoption. This is so that you can read each dog's profile and ensure they are a potential match for your family before submitting an application.

2

Submit an Application

Please take your time completing our adoption application. This is our chance to get to know a little bit about you as we start the screening process.

3

Reference Check

If you've owned a dog or cat within the last 5 years, we will do a quick reference check with your veterinarian. If you rent your home, we will also need to speak with your landlord to ensure dogs will be welcome in your rental.

4

Virtual Interview

Following a successful reference check, we will contact you to set up an online video interview via Zoom. This video interview will serve as a home visit as well so that we can meet all family members and see where the dog will be living.

5

Meet & Greet/Adoption

If you are approved to adopt, we will then set up a time for you to come and meet the dog you've been approved for. Prior to your meet and greet we will have you complete an adoption contract online so that you are ready to take your new companion home if all goes well!
