Surrender Your Pet

Thinking of surrendering your dog?

We understand that sometimes life circumstances change and you may be faced with the difficult decision of rehoming your dog. Precious Paws Rescue operates entirely through volunteer foster homes, which means we can only accept owner surrenders when space and resources allow. Like many shelters and rescues across the province, we are most often at capacity and unfortunately have to turn away more requests than we can accept.

If you are struggling, we would love to explore ways to support you in keeping your companion at home. For families facing financial challenges, we may be able to assist with dog food, supplies, or veterinary care - please reach out to lovedathome@preciouspawsrescue.ca to provide more information about your situation.

If surrendering remains the only option, please complete our surrender form below. Once received, a member of our volunteer team will contact you to let you know if space is available. You can also visit www.helpinghomelesspets.com for a list of additional rescue contacts. Please note that all dogs are fostered in volunteer homes, and for the safety of our volunteers and community, we cannot accept dogs with aggression concerns.

Criteria to surrender your dog to Precious Paws Rescue.

In order to be considered for placement with Precious Paws Rescue, a surrender form must be completed in full. All known information about your dog - especially any medical or behavioural concerns - must be included so that we can determine if an appropriate foster home is available. Prior to placement, dogs will undergo a behavioural assessment, and all medical records must be provided. We request a surrender fee of $150 to help offset veterinary and care expenses; however, if there are extenuating circumstances that make this difficult, please let us know. Full transparency is essential to ensure your dog’s needs are met and that we can provide the right support in foster care.

Surrendering your pet to Precious Paws Rescue is a permanent decision.

At Precious Paws Rescue, we understand that surrendering your dog is one of the hardest choices a family may ever have to make. If there is a chance that you could keep your dog with some guidance or support, we encourage you to reach out to us - we would be happy to explore options with you whenever possible.

Sometimes, however, surrendering truly is the only decision left. If you do choose to surrender your dog, you will be asked to complete a surrender contract. By signing this contract, you are making a permanent and legally binding decision to transfer full ownership of your dog to Precious Paws Rescue.
